The First Church of Christ, Scientist, Washington, DC, is located down the street from the White House. Our church membership engages with and supports the DC community. We warmly welcome everyone to our services and church community.

Christian Science is a Christian denomination based on the Holy Bible, Jesus’ teachings, and God’s goodness and ever-presence.

During a time of crisis in her life, Mary Baker Eddy found healing through the study of the Bible and Jesus’ healings. She wrote down her discovery of the scientific laws of God in what became Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, the Christian Science textbook, and founded the Christian Science church in Boston in 1879.

Mrs. Eddy visited DC throughout the 1880s to heal, lecture, and teach about her scientific discovery. First Church of Christ, Scientist, Washington, DC was originally incorporated in 1895 to meet a growing need in the Nation’s Capital for the healing message of Christian Science.

As the practice of Christian Science expanded in Washington, DC, two additional branch churches were established by 1918. During this time, the members of First Church helped establish the Third Church of Christ, Scientist, to support the growing spiritual demand.

Nearly a century later, in 2015, the memberships of First Church and Third Church reunited, merging under the name of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Washington, DC.

Today, the church continues its mission to worship God and practice Christian healing in the community and beyond, grounded in the Bible and the teachings of Christian Science.
