Community Outreach
Our church loves to engage with the broader community – be it through weekly services and events, ecumenical activities, or support in prisons and other institutions. If you’re interested in joining these activities, please email at clerk@firstchurchdc.org.
Events and Services
More information on our weekly services is available here (hyperlink) and information posted about new and upcoming events is on our events page (hyperlink). Stay tuned as each year, we host an annual public Christian Science lecture.
Reading Room
The Reading Room is open to the public five days a week. Come talk, ask questions, read, or enjoy a quiet place to pray! Click here (hyperlink) to learn about community-wide events our Reading Room regularly hosts.
Institutional Volunteering
Institutional volunteers are available to visit individuals interested in Christian Science in a range of institutional settings, including veterans’ hospitals and other hospitals, nursing homes, mental health facilities, shelters, jails, and prisons. Our volunteers can hold individual or group discussions about the weekly Christian Science Bible Lesson, Bible stories, and God’s love.
The initial meeting is often first organized through the ordained jail or prison chaplain. Please email XX to arrange a visit. The volunteers also make themselves available to correspond with inmates by email or snail mail to answer questions about Christian Science.
We also work with Embraced: Fully, an organization that helps inmates studying Christian Science prepare for release and start life fresh.
